What is coaching?
Many people still do not understand what coaching is and how it differs from therapy. Let me clarify some points for you.
A consultant is a person who directly advises you.
A therapist is one who works with all kinds of psychological traumas and helps people to get from dysfunctional to functional.
A coach works with a client’s strengths and helps them focus those strengths to get from their everyday functional life to a life where all of their goals are met.
Mission & Vision
There is a firm belief in coaching that a person is a microcosm in which they themselves have all the answers to all of their questions. You might ask: “If I have all answers inside me, why I should go to anybody else to hear myself?” The reason is clear. People often don’t hear their own random thoughts and even if they do, they don’t act on those thought they hear that will undoubtedly change their lives.
The reasons we don’t hear ourselves:
- We are afraid to look inside ourselves.
- External noises are so great that they completely drown out our intuition, our inner voice and the voice of our heart.
- We often compare ourselves to others. The desire to be like someone does not allow us to be ourselves, completely devalues our uniqueness, and thus we lose our authenticity.
- After stunning losses, when a stable and lasting world collapses in an instant, we often find ourselves in complete darkness, not knowing how and where to move forward.
Why do we need someone to hear ourselves? I will give you an analogy. Imagine, that you are going to an important event and you want to look your best. You go to the mirror, you look at yourself using an object that can reflect yourself, some people may even have two mirrors in their homes so that they can look at themself from different sides at the same time. Without the help of a mirror, it’s not possible to see oneself entirely in any productive way. The mirror must be clean and of high quality so as not to distort our image. It works the same with our life situations. We need someone who can turn off external noise and illuminate our inner world. We need someone who can help nurture our own wisdom. So, a coach is this mirror that will very delicately allow you to see yourself, hear your desires, feel your heart and help you plan your better future.
What a coach does?
- Creates a safe space for you using unique and powerful tools that will help you begin to hear yourself and your own intuition which will enable yourself to see your future from your own best perspective. You can compare a coach to a lamp that illuminates all of your answers within you.
- Helps to open up incredible prospects that you were afraid to even dream of.
- Helps you to build a step-by-step path to your dreams.
- Helps you to achieve the desired goal faster than if you move towards this goal on your own without support.
- Helps you to believe in yourself.
What a coach does NOT do:
- Doesn’t dig deep into your (the client’s) past
- Doesn’t diagnose
- Doesn’t heal
- Doesn’t criticize
You need a coach if:
- You are tired of being stuck in a dead zone.
- You want significant changes in your life.
- You know what you want, but you don’t know how to get there.
- You want to improve your life qualitatively.
- You are ready to work hard towards your success.
- You are capable of taking your coach’s assignments seriously.
- You don’t want to live your life with you old beliefs and values that haven’t served you well.
